50cc Pro Seniors held at Zone 7.

With over 90 entries iand over 400 spectators the atmosphere
was electric at the the first MX race of the 2014 season.
The event was held by MSA at ZONE 7 in Cape Town. With all
the riders back from a long holiday, the weather playing along
and Johann Spies from ZONE 7 prepping the track to perfection,
everything was aligned for a perfect race day!
With John-Henri Vaughan back after a 3 months due to a broken
leg and Hennie Roux, missing out on the championship by only
7 points in 2013, these two were the clear favourites.
HEAT 1
Vaughan got the holeshot with Roux right behind and Zander
De Bruin following closely. Slow traffic caused Hennie Roux
to go down in lap 5 but he managed to hold his position and
the positions remained unchanged for the rest of the heat.
Krige vd Merwe took 4th and little Annika Groenewoud, the
only girl against the boys, took a well deserved 5th place.
HEAT 2
Vaughan went flying out the gate once again to take the holeshot.
Roux struggled with his bike to match John-Henri's speed.
Roux managed to set the fastest lap in Heat two but it was
not enough as John-Henri raced like a true champ and took
the checkered flag to take the overall for the day.
Hennie Roux followed in second with a great race from Krige
vd Merwe to take third. Krige showing some great speed and
definitely a rider to watch this year. Zander De Bruin took
4th with Liam “Die Leeu” Lambert in a well deserved
5th place.
OVERALL RESULTS
1. John–Henri Vaughan
2. Hennie Roux
3. Krige vd Merwe
4. Zander De Bruin
5. Liam Lambert
6. Annika Groenewoud
With so many young riders having moved up through the ranks
and showing their potential already in the first race, the
2014 season is sure to be a great one. With a whole year of
racing still ahead, the title can go to anyone.
