About
Smoking Pistons Racepark Description: Smoking
Pistons Racepark was started on the 6th December 2010.
It was formerly known as Wildthing Raceway and Xumbugs
before that. The track itself has been at it's current
location on the Corner of Kliprivier and Swartkoppies
street near Alberton for over 13 years.
The
new owners have one vision in mind and that is to create
a family park with numerous off-road activities and
still be a Premier Motocross and Supercross track in
South Africa.
In
a short time the facility has already gone through some
major changes. The senior MX track has been completely
revamped to within in official spec to make it a premier
racing facility. With that they have also built a proper
junior MX track that until now had not existed at the
venue.
Their
latest undertaking has been the brand new development
of an AMA style Supercross track that is now open for
riding and will soon be a race venue.

Supercross
Track Track Description: Smoking Pistons has recently built a first class
SX track with the guidence of Dirt worx in the USA. The triples
and rhythm sections are exactly as you would find them in
the USA. The only difference is that the whoops have been
tamed down for the SA experience. The track is challenging
even for the best in SA, but is rideable for anyone who just
wants to putt around. The finish triple is pretty big with
no room for error. There is one other triple that only really
the 450's can clear, as it is right out of a corner. The rest
of the jumps are do-able even for a 65cc.

Senior
MX Track
Track Description: The senior track is the old quad track which
was "Wildthing". The track has been transformed
into a full on MX track, without the BIG wall berms
that were around the whole original track. All the turns
are flat corners without the option of berms. This makes
the track really rutty in the turns during a race. The
turns do tend to form 1 lined initially, but as the
track gets rougher, the riders venture outwards.
The soil is really hard pack "blue groove"
when it isn't ripped and wattered, but on race day or
prepped practices, the track is loamy and really enjoyable.
The track is one of the faster tracks in Gauteng, with
fast flowing sections and one really long uphill drag.
There are a few fun tabletops. The finish tabletop
is a fair size and fun to jump. It is very safe though.
There is a long tabletop in the middle of the track
that is quite a challenge for a new rider, but there
are two small step-ups that are fun for the new guys.
The start is a slippery concrete one and quite an art
to pull off fast and straight.
Junior
MX Track (50cc) Track Description:
The 50cc track is definitely one of the fastest. They have
made an effort to slow the track down by building in a few
more jumps recently, but still remains fairly fast. The track
only has four straights, but they are long and NOW full of
obstacles. All the jumps are fairly easy to clear and seems
to be a great track for all junior riders to start their MX
carreer. The track is hardly ever ripped and remains hardpack
for most of the season.
