Senior
MX Track
Track Description:
The Terra Topia main track is very old school motocross.
It reminds you of an old 500cc GP track, not that different
to the Carlsbad race track in the 80's in California. The
track is laid out on a north facing slope with interesting
true MX Grand Prix type fast sweeping corners with a mix of
negative & positive cambers. The track is the widest in
the country with an average width no less than 12m. There
are supporting berms throughout, especially on the fast bottom
negative corners. The soil is intermediate to sandy when ripped
with loads of traction when wet, never slippery. On practise
weekends the track surface gets harder & in true MX nature
develops choppy waves but lots of watering & hand prep
generally sorts all problems. The soil is very similar to
the "Springfield track" in Durban on a good day.
The track is fast and sweeping, but don't mistake it for easy
when it is rough. Line selection is important when rough.
All the jumps are generally high speed but are very safe with
long sloped landings. This is not a Supercross track. There
are a few ski jumps that are absolutely awesome at full speed.
There is quite a long rhythm table top section at the bottom
of the track.
The start is a wide sweeping downhill negative left hand
and is + - 80m long, so there is only time for one gear shift.
The start surface behind the gate is dirt & tends to rut
out deep. A split gate 20/20 mechanism can allow for rapid
split starts if required.
Track Specs:
Distance: Approx. 1.6km (short
version) Best lap time 1min38 (59km/hr ave.) – 2km (long
version) Best Lap Time: 1min35
Track Direction: Anti-clockwise
Start Type: Soft Dirt
Soil Type: Intermediate to Sandy.
Never slippery when wet. After rain, it is the best ride of
your life.

Junior
MX Track (50cc)
Track Description:
The 50cc track is one of the most technical in the country.
One of the only 50cc tracks that can form deep ruts. It has
downhill and long uphill straights, so horsepower is important
here. The track surface on race days is sandy to intermediate
if ripped but generally becomes more hard pack as the day
progresses. On practise days the surface is hard with loose
soft soil on the outsides. It is one of the more technical
50cc tracks and can be pretty tough for new riders initially.
It is big enough to host 65cc racing. There is an open flat
area in the extensive paddock area where novice riders can
develop their skills & receive training from the numerous
riding coaches that are part of the in house Jnr development
academy. New Jnr flat track coming soon for the novice riders.
Track Specs:
Distance: Approx. 800m
Track Direction: Clockwise and
Anti-clockwise (Alternating Directions)
Start Type: Sand Start –
main gates – sweeping right hand
Soil Type: Intermediate to Sandy.
Never slippery when wet. After it rains it is the best ride
of your life.
