Danville, Virginia USA - South African Motocross champion, Michael
Docherty, has taken the next step towards making his dream of becoming
a professional Motocross rider a reality by qualifying to compete
in the 31st Red Bull AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship
to be held later this year in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, USA.
Known as the World's largest and most prestigious amateur motocross
racing program, the Red Bull AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship
has a grueling National qualifying program consisting of more than
50 Area Qualifier races which take place in 7 Regions across the
United States. Each Area Qualifier allows only the top eight riders
in each class after 3 heats to move forward to the Regional Qualifiers
and Iron Mike was just one of over 20,000 riders in 36 classes to
spend the last four months trying to qualify at Regional level.
It finally all came together for him at Muddy Creek Raceway recently
when he qualified in the prestigious Open Pro Sport class alongside
the top Amateur riders in the country and his place at the National
Championship is now secured.
Docherty has attempted to qualify for the National Championship
for the last 5 years and has endured many hardships and set-backs.
Injuries like a broken femur, two broken collarbones and countless
trips to the emergency room have not deterred him from his dream
but only strengthened his determination to keep trying. His perseverance
and discipline has finally paid off and he now gets to compete with
the best in the World.
The 31st Annual Red Bull AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship
will be held in Tennessee, USA from 29th July to 3rd August 2013.
This International event serves as a launch pad for some of the
biggest names in professional Motocross and Supercross including
Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart, Ryan Villopoto and Ryan Dungey.
The track is built on a section of Loretta Lynn’s Ranch and
Campground in Hurricane Mills and contains a variety of jumps, corners
and other obstacles designed to test the skills and stamina of the
racers.
Mike will make the journey to the National Championship along with
his nutritionist and trainer, Richard Cape, his friend and fellow
multiple SA champion, Ryan Angilley and of course his Father. Mike
was quick to give credit to the team that’s behind him “Without
the support of my main sponsors this step would not have been possible
and I would like to thank G2 Trading, Parts Unlimited, Thor, Transcom
Sharaf and Total Control for their continued support. I’m feeling
fitter and more prepared than ever and I’m ready to show the
world what I can do!”
